Google Flight takes off worldwide

20 March 2012

Edinburgh : Google has taken an initiative to show flight deals when users search for specific travel itineraries to the next level. The search giant has just added new destinations to its flight search algorithm, including Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, and Venice. This means when users search for specific terms like “JFK – AMS” they will immediately see the best flight deals.
“Since Google  launched Flight Search, they have many globetrotters eagerly waiting to use the feature to search for destinations outside the U.S., users can find flights, including international destinations, from the U.S. quickly and conveniently,” Google said in an official blog post. The company has gained some enemies in the market of traditional flight search engines.
Travel sites reportedly rely on Google for nearly 20% of their traffic, and many of the sites also uses these links for the users to directly reach their airline websites – are going to be most directly affected. Google claims the new flight search tool is due in part to advertising money paid by the airlines, which fits in with its policy of sponsored results showing up above organic results.
